Scope and Contents

The photographs in this collection document the planning of Florida Atlantic University. The collection includes photographs of the ground breaking by state and local dignitaries, architectural drawings depicting the early concept of campus buildings, and group portraits of the early administrators in planning meetings. The university opened in August 1964.

Conditions Governing Access

Collections are available for supervised use in the Special Collections reading room during regular hours or by appointment. Users are required to complete a registration form and to comply with regulations governing use. Research assistance may be available but please email or phone first to set up an appointment. Photocopies or electronic copies of material in the collections may be provided within copyright limits but may not be ready immediately. In addition, selected materials are digitized and available electronically through the Digital Library.

Arrangement Note

This collection is arranged in the order in which the photographs were received.

Custodial History

The photos, negatives, and letters were held in the files of Adelaide Snyder until her retirement, at which time some of her files were acquired by Elfriede Lynch.  Ms. Lynch put the all the files, which included the photos and negatives, into filing cabinets and kept them in a storage area.

Source of Acquisition

Ms. Elfriede Lynch transferred photographs to the University Archives.

Method of Acquisition

This collection was transferred to the University Archives by Ms. Elfriede Lynch upon her retirement in 2007.
